We just received the September issue of Inc. magazine in our office today, which features the always exciting Inc. 500 list of the fastest-growing private companies.
Sadly, none of our most recent pool of honorees, the 2007 Top Small Workplaces Winners and Finalists, cracked the top 500. One of them would have needed to edge out Colorado-based construction company Samuel Engineering in terms of three-year revenue growth, and Samuel set a very high bar at 625%.
Even in our economy that has seemed to grow tougher in the last few years, the firms named to the Inc. 500 and its more inclusive cousin, the Inc. 5000, experience higher growth rates year after year. The #1 company on this year's Inc. 500, for instance – Massachusetts-based Senior Whole Health, an insurance provider – grew over the last three years at an absolutely mind-blowing ... wait for it ... 31,525%!
The companies who were Top Small Workplaces Winners and Finalists last year didn't do that well in terms of growth, but they did excel in other areas, including demonstrating cohesive and vibrant workplace cultures, made possible by stellar employee engagement best practices and team building, that have made them industry leaders when it comes to retention, low turnover, and serving as agents of change in their communities.
Here are our 2007 honored firms that made the 2008 Inc. 5000 list:

Our congratulations to Cowden Associates, Althea Technologies, Menlo Innovations, rbb Public Relations, and The Fuel Team. For more on what makes these great workplaces, check out our white paper on the righthand side of this page.
