37signals CEO: Slow Growth is Ideal

37signals CEO Jason FriedI've blogged before about the advantages of growing slowly and manageably if you're a small business leader.  Last week small biz marketing expert John Jantsch cited the CEO of a darling of the tech space – Chicago-based 37signals – who advances this leadership approach in his new book.

One of the nuggets in 37signals CEO Jason Fried's Rework, Jantsch writes, is:

Why Grow? - Everyone seems enamored with the idea of rapid growth.  Maybe that's not the right approach for you.

Indeed, maybe not.  Especially if you want to ensure that you, your leadership team, and your HR staff can keep a handle on your employee engagement best practices to maintain the productivity level of your workplace culture.  This focus has a direct and powerful impact on your bottom line: happy employees stay longer, reducing your recruiting costs, and they also are involved with your customers for longer periods, helping to boost revenues from repeat business.

Related: Fried co-founded 37signals in 1999 and is still active as a founder today.  Read this employee engagement research which makes the bottom line-strengthening case for why he should remain in that role for as long as possible.
