Great Workplace Industry Focus: Hospitality

A Zingerman's employee rallies customersGive your industry, location, target audience, and budget (among many other important factors I acknowledge omitting here for the sake of time), building your brand is a relatively straightforward proposition.  For example, this week the YoungEntrepreneur site provides tips to do just that for owners and leaders of restaurants, which of course falls under the hospitality sector.

Yet, what is the point of spending to bring people to your door if you're not also investing in your workplace to keep employees engaged so they're always best representing your brand (the bottom line consequences of which are more repeat customers and referrals)?

Restaurants in particular are notorious for having workplace cultures with poorly engaged employees; consequently, they are also known for their high turnover.  I know – I worked at several while in high school.

There is much to learn in terms of winning people practices from the Success Stories we've written on the following restaurants based in Illinois, Michigan, and Delaware (respectively).  Check them out:

Do you have a story of a restaurant that has blown you away when it comes to amazing customer service stemming from how they treat their workers?  Add a comment and tell us about it.
